Following on the success of the Chin Family range of table accessories, Stefano Giovannoni’s OrienTales opens a new chapter in the collaboration between Alessi and the National Palace Museum of Taiwan.
“A few years ago, during a business trip to Taiwan, I had occasion to visit the National Palace Museum. Regarded as the finest museum in the Far East, it houses the most representative masterpieces of the art and culture of ancient China. […] The art and technical skill that went into those works produced artefacts of great expressive force, the result of very patient and sophisticated execution; the tiniest details were rendered with almost obsessive meticulousness as part of the artist’ constant striving for perfection. […] For this project I started with a lengthy and complex analysis of the language and the popular and figurative arts of ancient and modern China, representing it in a series of icons and depictions associated with the natural world and the animal kingdom, stylistic and decorative traits that formed the basis for the development of the project”.
