Stefano Giovannoni

Stefano Giovannoni born in La Spezia, lives and works in Milan as industrial designer, interior designer and architect.He graduated at the University of Architecture in Florence at the age of 23 and, in the same faculty, he taught and conducted research until 1991.
In 1984 and 1985 he collaborated with Ettore Sottsass and Alchimia-Mendini. He taught at Domus Academy in Milan, SPD Milan, at Università del progetto di Reggio Emilia, at University of Architecture in Florence and in Genoa.

 

He collaborated with companies, such as Alessi, first designer with more than 300 steel and plastic products, (remark products: the “Girotondo family” absolute bestselling series in the history of design-oriented companies with more than 10 millions products sold, the “Mami” series, “Il Bagno Alessi” and famous plastic products such as Lilliput, Magic Bunny and Merdolino), Magis (with “Bombo”stool, the most worldwide copied design product, “Vanity” and “First” series), Amore Pacific, Artsana, Bertazzoni, Bisazza, Cederroth, Deborah, Elica, Fabbrica Pelletterie Milano, Fiat, Hannspree, Hanssem, Helit, Henkel, Honeywell, Inda, Kankio, KDDI, Kokuyo, Laufen, Lavazza, LG Hausys, LG Electronics, L’Oreal - Maletti, Meglio, Mikakuto, Moooi, Nestlé-Frisco (art director in1996), Nissan, NTT Docomo, Olivari, Oras, Oregon Scientific, Papernet-Sofidel, Promelit, Pulsar, Replay, Samsung, Seiko, Shaf, Siemens, Skitsch, Sodastream, SPC, Star, Telecom, Toto, 3M, Tubes, Veneta Cucine, Vondom, ZTE,ecc.

He works as industrial designer, designing many bestsellers and commercially successful products that awarded him as “Champion of Super and Popular of the years 2000” (Alberto Alessi), “King Mida of design” (Cristina Morozzi), “Most bankable designer” (Eugenio Perazza, Magis).

Awards History

 

1980 - 1999

 

In 1980 he won the first prize at “Shinchenchiku Residential Design Competition”, with Kisho Kurokawa as judge and also the prize of “Concorso per una piazza a Santa Croce sull’Arno”, Florence.

In 1985 he won the Second prize at “Shinchenchiku Residential Design Competition”, with Tadao Ando as a judge.

In 1989 he designed for Alessi the Girotondo Family and won the “Concorso per la ristrutturazione del centro storico di Castel di Sangro” in Italy, with A. Branzi and R. Buti.

In 1991 he designed the Italian Pavillon for the exhibition “Les Capitales Europeennes du Nouveau Design at Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris.

In 1993 he designed for Alessi the famous family of plastic products FFF.

In 1994 and 1996 Giovannoni received the “Design Plus” at “Design Plus Award, Ambiente Messe Frankfurt” for his Alessi design products.

In 1996 he designed for Magis the Bombo stool and the Bombo family.

In 1997 he won the prize “100% Design” in London.

In 1999 the “International Forum Design Hannover” prize.

2002 - 2019

 

In 2002 “The New York Interior Design Award” prize.

In 2003 the “ISH” prize and also the “Design Plus” at “Design Plus Award, Ambiente Messe Frankfurt”.

In 2005 he won the “Design Plus” at “Design Plus Award, Ambiente Messe Frankfurt” and as well in 2009.

In 2006 he was in charge of the Art direction of the brand Frisco/Nestlè leading company in the ice-cream business in Europe.

In 2008 he created the family Orientales and the mascotte Mr Chin for the National Palace Museum Taiwan.

In 2010 the Chicago Atheneum awarded him with the “Good Design Award”.

In 2012 he presented in Beijing Millennium the mobile phones designed for the Chinese brand Nubia by ZTE.

In 2014 he was in charge of the Art direction of Faenza, a leading Chinese company in the bathroom business and of the Art direction of Beijing Design week 2014 creating of the mascotte and the website for Design More.

In 2015 Giovannoni won the “Red Dot Design Award” and in September of the same year, he partnered with a Hong–Kong based investor and started the brand Qeeboo, where he is Ceo and Art director. In the same year he was in charge of the Art direction of Ghidini1961 a leading company in the production of brass and copper in Europe, a collaboration still on going.

In 2016 he was the Art director of Gwangju Design Triennale creating the setting of the exhibition and designing some products for Korean manufacturers.

In 2016 he created an installation with 1000 Rabbit chairs with light at Summer Palace, the Imperial Garden in Beijing, for Mid-Autumn Festival.

In 2017 he was in charge as Art director of Milano Triennale Design Museum exhibition “Girogirotondo”, which took place for the whole year in the most important design museum in Italy: Triennale Design Museum. Giovannoni created the setting and curated the whole image of the exhibition.

In 2018 he was the Art director and curator of the exhibitionLunapark: The Design Island” in Seoul Korea at DDP building by Architect Zaha Hadid.

In November 2018 in Seoul, together with LG Electronics President and Vice Presidents, he presented to the Korean press a collection of domestic appliances designed for LG: a television, a fridge, an air conditioning and a wi-fi furniture.

In 2019 he designed two wind turbine projects for Envision, energy company, and he was in charge of the Art direction of the brand Baskin Robbins in Korea, responsible for the brand image, products, graphic design and branding.
