Giovannoni Washlet

2008

Toto

A new typology for the European market, this washlet, born from the collaboration with the Japanese brand Toto, combines in a single item the functions of a toilet and a bidet, and offers advanced solutions such as a tap that uses a jet of hot water to sanitize, a thermal seat, a drying system, an aspiration system and a remote control for all the different functions. While designing this very sophisticated item Giovannoni was thinking about the care and respect for one's body typical of Far Eastern cultures. In Japan the washlet is already a cult object; the real challenge was to "bring it into the European market by communicating an image that is less mechanical and more domestic and familiar”.

I envisioned this object as a small robot for the home, one that takes care of you", the designer explains; "I imagined a product that wouldn't have the image of a machine, but would instead be an object to caress-a soft, organic, almost liquid image ... ! wanted a simple and domestic form that would remind you of a natural form: a stone, a bone or an organism". The WashletToto adds a technologically advanced lid to the classical ceramic base, which makes this project especially interesting and original. This new typology combines ecological features to the advantage of performance and comfort, and it optimizes space, revolutionizing the conception of the Western bathroom and offering an attractive solution for both domestic spaces and public ones, hotels first and foremost.
